Kimm Carr, Executive Director of Community Bible Study, surrendered her life to Christ as a college student. She attended both the University of Georgia and the University of Florida completing her Doctorate in the field of Audiology.
She married Steve Carr in 1993 and they welcomed the birth of their one and only child, Ben, in
1999.
While completing her doctoral degree, she began attending a Community Bible Study (CBS) class in 2004 where she experienced the reality that the Word of God, the Bible, is alive and active. She realized that God indeed speaks clearly through
Scripture. CBS was a warm and caring environment for her to dive into the Bible and get to know Jesus more intimately.
Beginning in 2006 Kimm served in various roles within her local CBS class including core leader and Teaching Director. She also
served as the National Prayer Chairman for USA Ethnos. She received the calling from the Lord to serve as Executive Director of CBS in 2013.
Kimm Carr joins Amber to discuss the value of studying the Bible in community, why studying the Bible over and over again matters, and how the scriptures changed her life.
“That is how the Lord used Community Bible study in my life, it was to teach me that, although I had faith He was real, I could experience Him personally, in a bilateral relationship, day in and day out, as I began to consume scripture, and that He would use His word to connect with me in a meaningful way.”
“He used that to show me that I didn’t know or love Him, I just knew about Him and enjoyed the cultural aspect of going to church in the south. So that was the crisis that He used to call me to Himself.”
“When you dig into the word, Holy Spirit applies it in your individual and unique circumstance. I did not realize that he did that until I spent time in Community Bible study.”
“But Steve, out of his love for the Lord, and out of what he had seen in our family, because his wife was being served the Word of God through CBS, and the transforming power that was happening. He also counted it a joy to leave his career with Georgia Power Company, so that we could help more people experience the purity and the transformation of simply getting into the Bible.”
“I would explain Community Bible study to someone by just simply letting them know that it’s a group of people getting together, right where we live, to enjoy reading and sharing what we learn from the Bible.”
“Community Bible study is the tool that connected me to Jesus.”
“Community Bible study was the tool He used to show me, I am here. This is who I am. I am trustworthy. I love you. I see you. I want you to walk with me. I want to set you free. I want you to know me now.”
“What comes to mind is the verse that the word of God is living and it’s active. When we marry that with the reality that you and I change as time progresses, we’re not the same person a year out, two years out, five years out and so it’s this convergence of as we grow and change over time and we connect with the living and active Word of God, it meets us where we are in a fresh way, every single time.”
“There is no way I am convinced, that one can plumb the depths of any book of Scripture ever in this life.”
